Prof Dr Franziska Carstensen

Franziska Carstensen studied political science and literature (German studies) in Potsdam and Edinburgh. She was then involved in the third-party funded project PolitikON and worked for six years as an editorial assistant at the "Zeitschrift für Parlamentsfragen". She was also a research assistant at the Institute for Political Science at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. From 2009 to 2012, she completed her dissertation on "Functional patterns and profiles: Subnational State Parliaments in Comparison". Between 2012 and 2023, she worked as an online academic tutor at the FernUniversität in Hagen. She has been a research associate at IParl since April 2021 and a visiting professor of political and administrative science at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR) since April 2024. Her research and teaching areas include the German political system, parliaments at all levels (especially at the sub-national level) and federalism. She is a member of the DVParl, the DVPW and the IVVI Berlin as well as the ECPR Standing Group on Parliaments.
