Prof Dr Frank Decker

Frank Decker, born 1964 in Montabaur, Dipl.-Politologe, Dr rer. pol., has been Professor of Political Science at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn since 2001 after studying and working as a research assistant in Mainz and Hamburg. Since 2011, he has also been Academic Director of the Bonn Academy for Research and Teaching of Practical Politics (BAPP). His work focusses on democracy and party research. Recent book publications: "Handbuch der deutschen Parteien" (Wiesbaden 2025, as co-editor), "Politik in stürmischer Zeit" (Bonn 2023, as co-author), "Die deutsche Demokratie" (Bonn 2022), "Aufstand der Außenseiter" (Baden-Baden 2022, as co-editor) and "Baustellen der Demokratie" (Bonn 2021). Frank Decker has edited the quarterly magazine INDES since 2022. He is a member of the Basic Values Commission of the SPD and a full member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (Salzburg). In 2023, he was honoured with the Otto Kirchheimer Prize for his achievements in the field of party research.
