Dr Marc Geddes

Marc Geddes is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Social and Political ScienceUniversity of Edinburgh, and Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Parliamentary Research. His research focuses on how MPs and civil servants carry out their democratic activities, the relationship between science and parliamentarism, and the fundamental question of how politics can and should be researched. In his award-winning book, Dramas at WestminsterGeddes explores these issues by focussing on the practice of parliamentary scrutiny of British MPs and civil servants. In 2021-22 Geddes was a Parliamentary Academic Fellow at the UK Parliament to assess the information behaviour of committees.

Marc Geddes is a member of the editorial committee for The Journal of Legislative Studies and British Politics. Between 2019 and 2022, he was the co-director of a research centre, the Centre for Science, Knowledge and Policy (SKAPE); between 2017 and 2020 he was Convener of the British Political Studies Association's Parliaments Group.
