With our work, we research parliaments in an empirical, application-oriented and fundamental way. As science also needs to be recognised outside the ivory tower, we also want our findings to have an impact on the public. Our regular research colloquia and our IParl Academy are just two of the ways in which we engage in dialogue with other academics and parliamentary practitioners.
The IParl Blickpunkt analyses political developments in a clear and concise manner. The authors examine issues that are being debated by the general public and shed light on them based on scientific findings. The series publishes analyses, documentaries and policy recommendations with a focus on parliaments and political parties.
Our colloquium is primarily intended as a forum for the exchange of ideas and the discussion of ongoing and completed research projects on parliamentarism and "related" areas such as party or electoral research. Academics and friends of parliamentarism are cordially invited to present and discuss their research projects or results, academic qualification papers or project ideas with practical relevance. Masters and doctoral students are also expressly invited.
Various projects collect, process and analyse data on the nomination and election of MPs, their work in parliament, representation and other democratic institutions. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of political processes.
The IParl organised its first Academy on Parliamentarism in March 2023. As part of the one-week conference programme, young academics (advanced students and doctoral candidates) were introduced to key content and methods of parliamentarism research in a practical way. A new edition is planned.
Fundamental, realistic and practical is the motto of the Institute for Parliamentary Research (IParl). This also applies to Zwischenruf - the political science podcast about parliaments. When we talk to our guests from politics, academia and journalism about about parliament-related topics, we combine political science with a practical, political perspective. Guaranteed without an ivory tower.
We publish and discuss our research findings with the scientific community and the wider public. To this end, we publish our work in journals, books, blogs and studies.
